Backrooms Best Hiding Spots

Where to hide and where to look on the Backrooms map in Meccha Chameleon.

The Backrooms map is inspired by the classic liminal-space aesthetic: yellowed wallpaper, fluorescent lighting, scattered office furniture, and random clutter. The busy environment gives hiders plenty of options, but it also means seekers must check many small details.

Map overview

  • Theme: Office backrooms with yellow wallpaper, carpets, and props.
  • Best for: Hiders who like visual clutter and shadowed corners.
  • Seeker challenge: High object density makes systematic searching essential.
Exact map layouts and object positions may change with updates. These spots are based on the current community-reported version of the map.

Top hiding spots

1. Office chair clusters

Easy

Clusters of chairs, ladders, and drawers appear in several office corners. Curl into a ball or crouch low and paint yourself in the muted grays and blacks of the furniture. The shadows between objects help hide imperfect edges.

Seeker check: Look for extra legs, armrests, or a silhouette that is too rounded.

2. Office corners and cubicles

Medium

The tight corners of office cubicles and partitioned spaces are tricky to fit into, but a hider who presses against the wall can blend in with the yellowed wallpaper. Paint yourself to match the wallpaper seams and add darker streaks for aging.

Seeker check: Walk the perimeter slowly. Anything that breaks the repeating wallpaper pattern is worth a test shot.

3. Trash piles against walls

Medium

Trash scattered against walls is common on this map. Lie flat or curl up and paint yourself with the dull browns and yellows of the garbage. The irregular shapes make it harder for seekers to spot a human form.

Seeker check: Trash that looks too clean or too symmetric is suspicious.

4. Birthday party hallway

Medium

A hallway with cakes, balloons, and party decorations offers bright but chaotic cover. You can curl into a ball near balloons or lie flat next to a cake table. Match the pinks, yellows, and whites of the party props.

Seeker check: Count the balloons and cakes. An extra one that does not match the others is likely a player.

5. Vending machine corner

Hard

Press yourself against the side of a vending machine and paint to match the wall next to it. This spot works best if the wall has a simple repeating texture and you can break up your outline against the machine's edge.

Seeker check: Walk past the machine slowly and look for outlines that extend beyond where the machine should end.

6. Broken highway / police car area

Medium

The broken road section with police cars gives hiders large props to hide under or beside. Paint yourself in asphalt gray or police-car black and tuck yourself near the wheels or under the lights.

Seeker check: Crouch and check under and around vehicles. Many players assume seekers will not look low.

General Backrooms strategy

  • For hiders: Use the yellow wallpaper as a base, but add darker streaks to match the aging and water stains.
  • For seekers: Move along walls in a fixed direction. The fluorescent lights create consistent shadows, so anything that breaks the shadow pattern stands out.
