Meccha Chameleon is best with friends. The game supports private rooms through a simple room code system, so you do not need to add everyone on Steam. This guide walks you through hosting, joining, and troubleshooting.
Quick answer
- One player hosts a room from the multiplayer menu.
- The host copies the room code.
- Friends select the join option and enter the code.
- Everyone confirms they are on the same game version.
- The host starts the match.
Step 1: Create a room
- Launch Meccha Chameleon from Steam.
- From the main menu, select the multiplayer option.
- Choose the create/host option (the exact label may be Create Room, Host, or Custom Game).
- Set the map, mode, and maximum players. Recommended: 4–8 for balanced rounds.
- Make the room private if you only want invited friends.
- Confirm to enter the lobby.
The recommended player count is 2–10, but 4–8 players usually gives the best pacing. Larger lobbies can become chaotic and depend heavily on the host's internet connection.
Step 2: Share the room code
Once the lobby is created, a room code appears on screen. The host can copy it and send it through Discord, Steam chat, or any messaging app.
- Room codes are case-sensitive. Copy-paste is safer than typing.
- If the room has a password, share that too.
Step 3: Join a room
- Friends launch the game and open the multiplayer menu.
- Select the join option or open the server browser and filter for private/custom rooms.
- Enter the room code exactly as shown.
- Enter the password if one was set.
- Wait in the lobby until the host starts.
Common problems and fixes
"Room not found" or code does not work
- Double-check the code for typos, including uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Make sure everyone selected the same region or server as the host.
- Check that the room is not already full.
"Version mismatch" error
- Restart the game on all computers. Steam usually auto-updates, but the game client may not restart automatically.
- Verify that no one is using a beta branch or old build.
Friends cannot see the room
- Confirm the room is set to private. Public rooms may fill with random players before friends join.
- Try having the host recreate the room and generate a fresh code.
- Restart Steam if the friends list or overlay seems out of sync.
High ping or lag in private lobbies
- The host's connection determines lobby quality. The player with the most stable internet should host.
- Close background downloads, streams, or cloud backups.
- Pick a server region closest to the majority of players.
Meccha Chameleon is currently only available on PC via Steam. There is no cross-platform play because there are no other official platforms yet.
Hosting viewer games
Streamers can use the same room code system to let viewers join. Set a large player limit, share the code on screen, and disable the password if you want open viewer participation. Keep in mind that very large lobbies may become unstable depending on your connection.
